AAU Tournament

By holtdojo

There is an AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) sponsored event on December 1, 2007. This tournament is a prequel for next April’s state finals event. There will be competitions in Kata, Kumite (sparring) and Kobudo (weapons) and will be open to all ranks and ages. Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals are awarded for the top three in each division, in each competition.

The AAU is focused on traditional Japanese and Okinawan Karate. For more information, check out their site at http://www.aaukarate.org/. It is mandatory that each student fills out the AAU application, available in printable form or generated and provided immediately at http://www.aauofmichigan.com/. This needs to be done prior to the event. The cost for this application is $12. The cost for the tournament is $35 and you will pay Sensei Doorlag directly at the door.

The kata portion of the tournament is open; our students can pick their favorite kata to perform.

This tournament will be at Parchment High School, a map is available on the flyer link at the top of the page.

Our kids did excellent at this tournament as well as the State and Regional (encompassing 5-states) over the last several years; it’s a great experience for everyone. If you plan on attending with your child, please let me know as soon as possible so we can properly train and prepare for this event.
